Policy Development

How do you choose a point on the horizon where you want to be in a couple of years time? I found out there is one very effective method: first listen well.

You can talk in such terms as development, vision and strategy, but leading begins with listening and indeed hearing what you are listening to.

It’s my experience that the desired strategy automatically crystallises when you listen well to hands-on people in the daily business with practical knowledge, and bring their stories together to formulate a consensus of opinion.

If you want to run a global organisation like the FEI, then the member organisations (Federations and Associated Members) are the people you need to listen to, and bundle their stories together to help determine policy.
Then it all comes down to execution. A good plan is worthless if not well executed.
