As part of his 100-day ‘Listening Programme’ and in the build-up to the FEI Presidential Elections 2010, Henk Rottinghuis will be at the following events:
Badminton
29 April – 3 May
The Mitsubishi Badminton Horse Trials were first held in 1949 by the 10th Duke of Beaufort. It was advertised as “the most important horse event in Britain” and sought to train British riders for future international events.
This year’s event begins with the First Horse Inspection on Thursday 29 April. Friday and Saturday sees dressage and dressage display, whilst Saturday sees the Stallion Display. The Final Horse Inspection and the jumping test for the top 20 competitors, along with the Parade of Duke of Beaufort’s Hounds will take place on Monday 3 May. Monday also marks the Presentation of Prizes, which concludes the five day event.
Outdoor Gelderland CSI and National Championship Dressage
9 – 13 June
The Outdoor Gelderland CSI is officially organised by the Foundation Outdoor Gelre. Each of the days will be themed starting on Wednesday 9 June with Children’s Day on which day dressage will be competing for a place in the finals later in the week. Additionally, the finals of the Outdoor Gederland Trofee will take place. Thursday ushers in the Seniors’ Day theme. International jumping competitors will inspect the main arena of Outdoor Gelderland for the first time during the warming-up. Following this, there will be a several hunting and driving classes in the main arena.
The event closes on the Sunday with the BMC Grand Prix of Gelderland. This will see the jumping participants compete for the coveted first prize.
CHIO Rotterdam
16 – 20 June
Some of the world’s finest horses and riders in show jumping and dressage will attend for the Meydan FEI Nations Cup, the Longines Grand Prix Port of Rotterdam and the Grand Prix Freestyle at this year’s CHIO Rotterdam.
A Meydan FEI Nations Cup event is organised as a five-star Nations Cup. This means that official teams representing nations compete against each other, and at each event the teams are awarded points according to their placing. At the end of the 2010 season the team with the most points wins the Meydan FEI Nations Cup and the four teams with the lowest points are relegated to the FEI Nations Cup series (Promotional League). Following the Promotional League Final, the two highest placed teams from that series join the Meydan FEI Nations Cup for 2011.
CHIO Rotterdam offers prize money of €200,000. This attracts some of the highest calibre horses and riders, and consequently some of the most exciting and gripping competition. However, it is not only the world-class competition that makes CHIO Rotterdam a unique experience. The shows and entertainment from bands such as Sisters Sledge have made the event popular in years past.
CHIO Aachen
9 – 18 July
Taking place in the grounds of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV), Germany, the CHIO Aachen commences with vaulting on Friday 9 July, 2010. The Saturday is home to yet more vaulting, but also Horse & Symphony, an event which brings together the equestrian world with the spectacular sounds of the famous Aachen Symphony Orchestra. Monday 12 July marks the reception of the CHIO partner country 2009 on the market square in Aachen, which promises to be a colourful spectacle for all, with the event coming to a close on Sunday, with a final display of jumping, dressage, and driving.
FEI Global Congress on NSAID’s, Lausanne
16 – 17 August
Meeting at the FEI headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Global Congress will convene to discuss the use of non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in competition.
WEG Kentucky
25 September – 10 October
This year’s World Equestrian Games is coming from Kentucky, USA. Coming from the Kentucky Horse Park, this year’s event will commence with the Opening ceremony, followed by reining. Spectators will also enjoy endurance, dressage, para-dressage, jumping and vaulting. The event will come to a close on Sunday 10 October with the closing ceremony.
